2010 Planet Connections Theatre Festivity Artist
MTWorks presents Barrier Island -
April 30 through May 22

FOUR WEEK LIMITED ENGAGEMENT
CENTER STAGE NYC (48 West 21st Street # 4, NYC)

"It is true that living on a potential disaster spot has tended to develop in its citizens a philosophy which is at the same time nonchalant, fatalistic, imperturbable, stoic and with a sort of paternalistic pride in the blows that nature can give and that 30 miles of sand bar can take..." (Prominent Galvestonian)

Barrier Island tackles the nature of a fearless community that chooses to stake their lives on the strength of the historic Galveston seawall -- built to protect the island from natural disasters -- as they await the arrival of one of the most devastating hurricanes to hit the United States since Katrina, Hurricane Ike. Nominated for the 2009 Weisberger Award (Williamstown Theatre Festival), Barrier Island is the first play in "The Galveston Cycle."

2009 Planet Award winner Our Country published in NYTE's New Play Anthology Plays and Playwrights 2010 - Congratulations to Tony Asaro (Music & Lyrics) and Dan Collins (Book)!

The New York Theatre Experience, Inc. (NYTE) announces publication of Plays and Playwrights 2010. This is the eleventh volume in NYTE’s annual series of anthologies of new plays by never-before-published playwrights.

Plays and Playwrights 2010 features ten works that premiered off-off-Broadway between September 2008-September 2009: The Invitation by Brian Parks; Flip Side by Ellen Maddow; Any Day Now by Nat Cassidy; The Spin Cycle by Jerrod Bogard; Suspicious Package: Rx by Gyda Arber & Aaron Baker; Our Country by Tony Asaro & Dan Collins; Maddy: A Modern Day Medea by Will Le Vasseur; Al’s Business Cards by Josh Koenigsberg; The Songs of Robert by John Crutchfield; and MilkMilkLemonade by Joshua Conkel. These plays were originally presented by some of New York’s most respected indie theaters, including the Ohio Theater, The Talking Band, Manhattan Theatre Source, the Brick Theater, Planet Connections Theatre Festivity, Horse Trade Theatre Group, and the New York International Fringe Festival.

The book is edited by Martin Denton. In addition to the complete texts of the plays, it includes biographical information about the playwrights, production data, and an introductory essay by Denton. The foreword is by playwright Leslie Bramm.

Martin Denton is the editor of ten previous Plays and Playwrights anthologies as well as Playing with Canons: Explosive New Works from Classic Literature by America’s Indie Playwrights and Unpredictable Plays. He is the founder and executive director of The New York Theatre Experience, Inc., a nonprofit corporation that uses new and traditional media to provide advocacy and support for American theatre. Planet Connections Assistant Manager Director Chanda Calentine directs 70 Million Tons at Looking Glass Theatre - Assistant Manager Chaz Graytok performs in the production!

God has had it. She gave us a beautiful planet with beautiful animals, beautiful land, beautiful oceans, beautiful air, and beautiful minds with which to make it even more beautiful. Is that what we’ve done? No. And she’s pissed! Fortunately for us humans, Ozie (the much abused ozone layer) has convinced God to give us one final chance. Unfortunately for us, She’s tasked the most extravagant and wasteful director on the planet (Billie, “Broadway’s Barracuda”) to save us all from another Great Flood. Can Big Bucks Billie herd her cast and crew, who are expecting to perform Shakespeare, into Not Again, Noah!, a modern farce set in Brooklyn, on bare budget Off-Off-Broadway? And most importantly, can they make it environmentally friendly in an hour? If not, let the rain begin!

A light-hearted look at the environment and the challenge of reducing our carbon footprint, this new comedy is also a mix of poetry and action. As the protectors of our planet, every one of us must make choices and changes that will put us on a more sustainable path. Audiences are encouraged to bring items to the show – water bottles, cardboard boxes, unused clothing, anything! – which will be re-used during performances, then recycled or donated to an appropriate organization. Laugh and learn with us… make a difference.

THIS IS SERIOUS... IT'S DINOSAURS.

With the help of the ass-kicking deputy Kate, Cope pits himself against Marsh and his team of gun-thugs and geological surveyors.  Throw an inept President Arthur and a Charles Darwin who eats Galapagos Finch meat with Gorgonzola cheese in the mix and you’ve got a twisted new comedy of life before the west was carbon-dated.

New show directed and conceived by Jeremy Bloom, 2009 Planet Award Winner for Outstanding Direction - La Boheme (Spoken) - limited engagement at The Flea!

Based on La bohème by Giacomo Puccini, adapted by Brian Rady, conceived and directed by Jeremy Bloom. La Boheme (Spoken) will play a one-week limited engagement at The Flea Theater (41 White Street, New York, NY 10013). Performances begin Wednesday, March 10 through Saturday, March 13. Don't miss out on this extraordinary experience.

“In dreams and flights of fancy, and in castles on the air,
I become a millionaire.”

La Boheme (Spoken)
is a lyrical dialogue loyally adapted from Puccini’s original libretto to his iconic opera La bohème. The result is a larger-than-life play, about young artists, mostly broke, hyper, and always on the brink of inspiration and death. The musical roots (repetitions and rhyme) and the awkwardness of translation enable a language that is poetically charged.
